CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
MRS. BOURGOYNE
Opening Class:
Students should be in the classroom before the bell, and should immediately start on the warmup or Concept Check. Sharpening pencils should be done before the bell. Warmups are done in your notebook as a part of note taking. Have all necessary books, notebook, pencil, and devices out on your desk at the beginning of class. Being on time is important because you miss valuable math instruction.
After the warmup, you may ask any questions about the last night’s homework/practice. If you have questions, it is very important to ask. Asking questions is not the act of a dumb student. The best math students ask questions. Raise your hand and I will be happy to help. If you feel that you need more individual help, please come in before or after school for help. I am on your side. Think of me as your math coach.
Students will show me evidence of their homework/practice by recording it in their student data journal. However, it will not be graded, only recorded. Student will be assigned suggested homework. However, students will be encouraged to modify and/or change the homework/practice based on their own needs, understanding, and interests. All student are allowed to retake any assessment, except Finals. IF STUDENTS EARN LESS THAN A “C” ON ANY ASSESSMENT (Test/Quiz) , THE STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO RETAKE THE ASSESSMENT AFTER SHOWING THEIR CORRECTIONS. FURTHERMORE, THE STUDENT WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHOW THE TEACHER THEIR PRACTICE/HOMEWORK FOR THAT SECTION AND THEIR DATA JOURNAL AND REFLECTIONS DURING A TEACHER/STUDENT MEETING.
Student will be required to fill out and turn in a Student Self-Assessment Sheet, assessing their participation, note taking, and preparation by USING RUBRICS (quarterly), AND After each assessment, Students must record their progress in their data journal. Student will also document and reflect on how they prepared in order to meet the learning objectives and set goals and create plans for improvement. This may include getting tutored and correcting their understanding, along with retaking the assessment. It may also include changing their preparation strategies.
End of Class Procedures:
Students will record short reflections in their daily data journal about what they understand well and what concepts or questions they need help or further practice. They may start planning what they need to practice for the night. Students may also use the last few minutes of class to ask individual questions. STUDENTS ARE TO WORK ON THE FINAL ACTIVITIES AND REMAIN IN THEIR SEATS UNTIL BELL RINGS.
1-1 Device Management:
As a member of a 1:1 program, it is your responsibility to bring your device to class each day charged and ready for use. Failure to do so will result in your being sent to the Media Center to receive a violation. If your device is in need of charging it will be kept and charged for the remainder of the class hour or until it reaches 50%. It is your responsibility to pick it up between classes. Loaner devices are available only for devices that are mailed in for repair.
